Tom Performs Again With It's a Beautiful Day

On November 29, It’s a Beautiful Day played at the “Little Fox” in Redwood City. As a “sidekick” venue to the historic Fox Theatre, The Little Fox hosts some big time acts while being a charming little club with a cozy at-home feel.

Opening up for It’s a Beautiful Day was the Billy Talbot Band. Billy Talbot is best known as the original bass player for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. They worked their way through several extended psychedelic jams, definitely exuding that Crazy Horse “flavor. After the set, Jacob and Joel had a chance to meet Billy Talbot backstage.

As he had done several times in the past year, Tom Savell guest starred as the second violinist along with bandleader David LaFlamme. David, Linda, Tom and the rest of the band ripped through a few classic It’s a Beautiful Day tunes including White Bird and Girl with no Eyes.

David always keeps the audience entertained in between songs by recounting stories and jokes he has collected over the years. This time, however, Tom had a tale of his own, as he told about the time when he was a young boy, going to the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati. Young Tom came home from his first day crying, because they made him play the violin! Tom had been hoping to play the piano, not a “sissy instrument” like the violin, but they said his ear was so good that he had to play the violin. Fortunately, he stuck with it, even though David looked a bit taken aback upon hearing his pride-and-joy called a “sissy instrument!” It was all in good fun, and the audience loved it.
